About
I’m Michael Hicks, a Midwest-based photographer working at the intersection of craft, story, and lived experience.
My work is shaped by where I come from and how I move through the world. I’m drawn to what’s crafted, to things built and shaped with intention. Cars made with care, places marked by time, and people in the moments between motion. Rather than chasing spectacle, I focus on presence, light, and the details that reveal character.
I approach photography with restraint and curiosity, responding to the energy of each moment as it unfolds. Some sessions are quiet and observational, others carry more movement and momentum. I don’t impose a narrative. I listen, observe, and respond. Clients often tell me I notice what others overlook. Gestures, textures, and moments that carry weight without asking for attention.
Over the years, my work has been part of editorial features, brand collaborations, and creative travel projects throughout the Midwest and beyond. I am a member of the Dayton Society of Artists. Regardless of subject, the goal remains the same: to create images that feel honest, considered, and rooted in story.
At the center of it all is trust. Being invited into someone else’s world, whether personal, mechanical, or environmental, is a responsibility I take seriously. The photographs are not just records of what was seen, but reflections of how it felt to be there.
If the work resonates, I welcome the opportunity to continue the conversation.
